WHY YOU SHOULD SPEND TIME ALONE

Many people see being alone as a problem, they might think that loneliness is a difficulty and that nobody likes to be alone. But it is quite the opposite. Enjoying loneliness can also bring a range of benefits and spending some time alone such as those described below.

Time to take care of yourself

Spending some time is a good way to learn about yourself, what do you need in life and also to discover new hobbies. When you’re in a relationship, sometimes you tend to spend more time with the other person and forget about yourself. However, when you are single, you can do much new stuff that can make your life more enjoyable, like training yourself culturally, doing some courses of something you like, practising sports or simply regaining old friendships. Remember that loneliness also gives you a lot of freedom that you can use for your own benefit.

Spending time alone increses productivity

According to science, being single increases productivity and studies show that being surrounded by people kills productivity. The presence of other people can distract you to do your things. When you are alone, you are more productive, have clearer priorities and are less likely to be distracted by other things.

Get to know your emotions better

This usual happens: if you are always surrounded by other people you will have to read and attend to their emotions. You don’t take time for yourself. However, spending time alone gives you time to get to know yourself and getting to that gives you the opportunity to learn about how you feel. You will know what annoys you, makes you happy, makes you sad or fulfil you. And once you know all this you can manage it in the best way for you.

You won’t need the approval of others

Many times we feel that we need to be accepted by friends and family before doing anything. We love turning to other people for advice on our next move. We’re not saying that asking for advice is a bad idea, but there are plenty of times that we are more than capable of acting on our own and still insist on knowing how others would do it.

Spending time alone teaches you to trust your instincts and make decisions without any outside influence. It makes you independent not only physically, but also emotionally.

Solitude sparks creativity

A study by the Journal of Family Issues has found the relationship between creativity and love. Observing 1,529 participants, that love is a “muse” that does not last forever. But staying single could be.

James Kaufman, a professor of psychology at the University of Connecticut and co-author of the study, said: “In essence, what we found was that creativity, emerges every day from the little things, like cooking or listening to an album, was associated with passion, intimacy and commitment. While in areas such as writing, acting and painting, these components were discarded ”.

Time for introspection

It is good to socialize and make friends whenever you can. It is a way to disconnect from daily stress and park our problems, having people with whom you can share a multitude of interests and hobbies.

Although, when you get home after a long day of laziness, try the following. Ask yourself the following questions: “Am I doing what makes me happy in life? What would I like to change about myself? What are my short/long term goals? ”These are deep and transcendent questions that allow us to know ourselves better through reflection and introspection when we spend some time alone.

As you can see there are plenty of benefits to spending some time alone. If you aren’t used to solitude, it can feel uncomfortable at first. But creating that quiet time for yourself could be key to becoming the best version of yourself.
